The NFLPA board is recommending there be no NFL preseason games this year amid the
COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the NFL is suggesting trimming the preseason schedule from
four games to two. “It’s clear that the union and the league are not on the same page with
regard to the length of the preseason right now,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said during his
report on NFL NOW. Training camps are scheduled to begin late July. The NFLPA is suggesting
a potential four-stage plan of protocols in lieu of preseason. The first stage would consist of
medical physicals for all players reporting to camp. The second stage would include a strength
and conditioning program. In the third stage, players would participate in non-contact,
non-padded practices before moving onto the fourth stage which would look more like the
traditional camp. The association’s outlined four-point proposal would go from training camp
directly to Week 1 of the regular NFL season. At this time, no definitive decision has been
made.
