A slide tackle is used by both the offense and defense to stop an opposing team in its attack. As the name suggests, the player performing the slide tackle “slides” along the ground in the direction of the ball or the opposing player’s feet. Used as intended, the slide tackle is a great tool for stealing the ball or blocking a defender. Though highly effective, a slide tackle can be deemed a dangerous play if unnecessary or unnecessarily forceful.
