The divisional and league alignments have changed A LOT throughout the history of Major League Baseball. But, though that is the case, many teams have been around for quite some time and have rich histories. So, in that regard, we’ll take a look at the current divisions and each team’s all-time win-loss record, and highlight their pennants and championships. This is the National League Central.
Chicago Cubs – 1876-2015 – W-L 10,608-10,130
Prior to becoming the Cubs, the team was known as the White Stockings, Colts, and Orphans, before taking on the Cubs moniker in 1903. In their history, the Cubbies have won two world championships, along with 16 pennants and 19 postseason appearances.
Cincinnati Reds – 1882-2015 – W-L 10,321-10,023
Like many other franchises, the Reds had other nicknames prior to becoming the Reds for good in 1960–as they played as the Red Stockings and Redlegs previously. In their history, they have won five world championships and 10 pennants in 15 playoff appearances.
Milwaukee Brewers – 1969-2015 – W-L 3,569-3,912
Before playing in Milwaukee, the Brew Crew began their existence as the Seattle Pilots in 1969. The next season the team moved to Milwaukee and became the Brewers. In their 45 years, they have just four playoff appearances and one pennant win.
Pittsburgh Pirates – 1882-2015 – W-L 10,241-10,063
Before they became the Pirates most fans known them as, the team began as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys, playing under that name from 1882-1890. In the Bucco’s long history, they have five world championships to go along with nine pennants in 17 playoff appearances.
St. Louis Cardinals – 1882-2015 – W-L 10,571-9,763
Before they became the beloved Cardinals, the team played under the names Brown Stockings, Browns, and Perfectos, before becoming the Cardinals in 1900. In their long history, the Redbirds have won 11 world championships, to go along with 23 pennants in 32 playoff appearances.
